Ruhnke Review for 11/11/19
651-771-8494 ext.18 aruhnke@stjeromeschool.org
We are Learning About:
Reading: We have been working on our Rhyming, Onset Fluency (beginning sound), Blending words, Segmenting words, Letter Naming-we have learned the letters Aa, Cc, Dd, Ii, Ll, Tt, & Rr. When you see words or letters anywhere, point to one of the letters they have learned and ask them what the letter is and the sound it makes. This will help them to remember it. We have also been working on Language Awareness. and we just began Isolating the Final sound in a word. This last concept is very difficult for many students, so please work with your child on this. Say a word, then have your child say what the final sound is in that word. For example, say “game,” your child should repeat the word then say what the final sound is—/m/.
Math: We are on Topic 6: Comparing Numbers. The vocabulary for T6 is: greater, less, greater-than, less-than. Topic 7: Geometry. Vocabulary for T7 is: square, rectangle, circle, triangle, symmetry, same size, same shape, making shapes from other shapes, matching parts, solid figures, sphere, cube, cone, cylinder, corner, edge, side, roll, stack, slide, flat surface. There are a lot of vocabulary words for Topic 7. Please start working on using these terms right away so that your child will be familiar with them. We will begin this topic next Friday, November 15th. Thank you!
Religion: We will learn about making Wrong Choices-Sin..
Humanities: We will learn about “Call of Abram” Genesis 12-13.
Science: We continue to learn about Energy: Heat, Light & Sound.
Star of the Week for November 11, 2019
Alice B.
A couple of times a month we will have a Star of the Week student in our classroom. This entitles the student to be the line-leader, to lead the morning calendar routine, to share/tell all about him/herself by filling in a poster. This will come home about a week or so before they are the star. A letter will also be included with the poster explaining all the special things the student will have an opportunity to do.
Reading Log
October Reading Logs were due November 1st. If you have not yet turned in your child’s, please send it in on Monday. Thank you.
Winter Apparel
Starting on Monday, the weather is suppose to be very cold. The weather channels are saying it will be a deep freeze with January-like cold. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately especially for outside. We go outside for recess twice a day unless the temperature is below 0 or the windshield is below 0. I always tell my Kindergarten students that they should wear snow-pants and boots, not just when it snows, but also to stay warm! Please make sure your child/children have a warm winter coat/jacket, water-proof mittens/gloves, please, NOT the knit cloth ones since they get soaking wet and then when your child puts them on for the afternoon recess, their little hands freeze! Make sure your child has a hat, boots, and snow-pants, also. If your Kindergartner doesn’t have one or any of these items, please let me know & I will get it for him/her. : )
Memory/Sight Words:
Memory/Sight words are words we find in every sentence we read. Students must know these words to be able to read a sentence. Students should memorize these words, NOT sound them out. Please practice these words every day, both reading them and spelling them.
a, I, to, the, in, it, is, at, as, on, and, you, be, of, we, for, if, do, he, she, me, my, us, up, an, am, by, or
Turkey Disguise!
A letter, an “undressed” turkey picture, and a planning guide went home with your child on Wednesday. Please work with your child to create a disguised turkey! The turkey doesn’t want to be someone’s Thanksgiving dinner, so think of a great way to disguise him…or her! Use materials you can find around your house such as: cheerios, clothe, construction paper, buttons, tissue paper, ribbon, noodles, sequence, feathers, pompoms, glitter, wood chips, sand, rice, whatever will disguise your turkey best so that he/she doesn’t become Thanksgiving dinner! Return the disguised turkey and the Planning Guide by Wednesday, November 13th. And have FUN!!!
Scholastic Book Orders:
The November book flyer went home on Wednesday. Orders are due by Nov. 25th. If you would like to place an order, the easiest way to do so is online. Use code RGVYW. If you would rather fill in your order using the flyer, please send it back to school with your child with a check or cash for the total. Thank you!
