We are learning about:

Reading: We have begun our new phonics curriculum, Groves. It is going well & the Kindergarteners seem to catch on to it quite fast! We will begin learning how to do the Daily 5 Literacy. The Daily 5 is a Literacy center program with Guided Reading instruction from me. The Daily 5 includes: 1. Read to Self  2. Read to Someone 3. Listen to Reading 4. Word Work (Memory/Sight Word work 5. Work on Writing.

Math: We will begin Topic 1: Sorting & Classifying. What is the same/alike…What is different… Vocabulary for this first topic is: same, alike, different, sort, does not belong, sorting rule. Please work with your child so they know & understand these words/terms. I will do my best to explain here at school, but they need reinforcement form you, at home. Thank you.

Religion: There is One God—Trinity: The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Humanities: We will learn about Creation & the seven days in which God created the world.

Star of the Week for September  30, 2019

A couple of times a month we will have a Star of the Week student in our classroom. This entitles the student to be the line-leader, to lead the morning calendar routine, to share/tell all about him/herself by filling in a poster. This will come home about a week or so before they are the star. A letter will also be included with the poster explaining all the special things the student will have an opportunity to do.

Welcome Kindergarten Families:

Thank you for coming to “Back to School Night” on August 29th. I enjoyed meeting you and getting to know a little about you and your family!

Every day, except Thursdays, we will have snack time. Please send a healthy snack to school with your child. Students will eat their snack in the afternoon. Milk will be provided.

Water Bottles:

Students are welcome to bring water bottles to school. The ONLY liquid students may bring is WATER.     NO Kool-Aid, no flavored water, no pop/soda, no Gatorade, etc

Take-Home Folder:

Please make sure you are checking your child’s Take-Home Folder every day & removing any papers inside. Then make sure your child brings his/her folder back to school each day.

If you have not done so, please send in a towel or a small blanket for your child to use during our nap/quiet time. Be sure to write your child’s name on it so that we know whose it is.

Great First Week of Kindergarten!!

We had a wonderful three days our first week of Kindergarten!! I have had a fun time with all of your children. I am so blessed to be the Kindergarten Teacher here at St. Jerome School with your fantastic children! I am loving each and every one of them!! I hope your child is enjoying Kindergarten as much as I am!!

Memory/Sight Words:

Your child will have approximatley four(4) Memory/Sight words to learn each week. We will begin learning them around the 3rd week in September. Memory/Sight words are words we find in every sentence we read. Students must know these words to be able to read a sentence. Students should memorize these words, NOT sound them out. Please practice these words every day, both reading them and spelling them.

Scholastic Book Orders:

I reccomend the Leveled books A-D. They usually come in a package deal of about 12 books for $12-$24 dollars. Your child will be reading at these levels beginning this school year, and you will need to have these leveled books for your child. The September book flyer coming home today. All Orders are due by Sept. 24th. If you would like to place an order, the easiest way to do so is online. Use code RGVYW. If you would rather fill in your order using the flyer, please send it back to school with your child with a check or cash for the total. Thank you!!
